Yesterday, I was in GPO (General Post Office) Gilgit for collecting my AdSense earnings for December month sent by Google via Western Union. Yet another person was there to collect his money sent by one of his family members living abroad. When he gave the MTCN to WU agent, he asked for CNIC. After checking the name of the receiver in the system, the agent refused to pay his money by saying that his name is blacklisted in WU as a “Taliban”. The news was shocking and I inquired the agent about the blacklisting mechanism. He told me that just names are blacklisted and if your name matches to the one, which is blacklisted in the system, your payment will be kept on hold.
Now the question is, is this blacklisting mechanism fair? Not really, as there are a lot of people with similar names living around the globe and all will suffer if a single person is blacklisted due to some reason. I started thinking that what will happen if any person in any part of the world gets blacklisted who’s name matches with that of mine. Then how I’ll be able to receive my AdSense earnings? It really makes me sad.
In such a situation, there are two options left in front of us to stay safe. The first, Western Union should bring some solid changes in their blacklisting mechanism so to make blacklisting effective and specific to the real persons only. It will ensure that the “innocents” aren’t suffered. Secondly, we request Google to enable AdSense payments via Payoneer for Pakistani and other Asian publishers. Checks take too long to arrive in Asian countries and EFT (Electronic Funds Transfers) isn’t available in most of Asian countries.
If Western Union doesn’t bring any effective changes in its blacklisting mechanism, many innocent people may suffer in upcoming days. On the other hand, Western Union’s business may also collapse as AdSense publishers are one of the biggest customers of WU in Pakistan and several other countries where EFT isn’t available.
If you are an AdSense publisher or if your relatives or friends send you money via Western Union, then you must be thinking about any possible suffering in upcoming days. At the end, what is your opinion about this? Is the blacklisting mechanism at WU effective and fair? Have you ever experienced yourself or anyone else as blacklisted at Western Union? Don’t forget to share your ideas as it is one of the most crucial issues which may bring sufferings for WU customers particularly for AdSense publishers in upcoming days.
